The Château des Monthairons was built in 1857-1859 for Charles-Henri de la Cour on the site of the old manor that the family had owned since 1685. The family produced a brilliant general, Nicolas de la Cour, and a famous prior who reformed the Benedictine order, Dom Didier de la Cour. He was beatified and is buried in the family chapel next to the house.
A wide meander of the Meuse flows past the eastern side of the estate. It is said that the course of the river was changed by an earlier lord of the manor to improve his estate.
The house was purchased by the Thouvenin family in 1985 and, since 1989, they can be proud of having brought back to life the beautiful stonework steeped in history.
