THE GROUNDS

The River Meuse flows along the eastern side of the 14-hectare estate. Within the fully-enclosed grounds are two chapels and a heronry in which the birds nest in spring. A delightful legend (of unknown origin) has it that the presence of herons gave the village and country house in Les Monthairons their names. Certainly in 2008, 44 herons' nests were found here in spring according to a member of the Ligue pour la protection des oiseaux (French society for the protection of birds). And as you stroll through the trees, you might also come across kingfishers out looking for fish.

From the grounds, there is a superb view of the house. Why not enjoy a snack on the terrace or relax on the loungers and enjoy the babbling water and song of the birds.
